Swapnil Dagliya's GIF guide to Garba + Rueda de Garba

Swapnil Dagliya, creative director of Space Studio, shows us how to do the Garba - a folk dance from Gujarat, India.

Garba (Dance)

It is a typical folk dance that originated in Gujarat and is characterized by dancers moving around in a circle creating circular patterns around a lamp in the centre of the circle. Traditionally it is performed during the Navratri festival but originally no celebration at home -- including weddings, birth of a child or any other festivities -- were complete without dancing the Garba.

Swapnil Dagliya has created the Rueda de Garba - a combination of the idea of the Rueda de Casino from the Cuban Salsa fused with the folk dance of Garba to create a unique style of movement. In the following GIF's you can find some basic movements along with some uniquely named movements that you could incorporate in your Garba Dandiya.
